Hryhory Skovoroda (1722-1794) is the great Ukrainian poet and philosopher. His The Garden of Divine Songs is a unique collection of 30 poems, written over a period stretching from the 1750s until 1785.

On the night of 6–7 May 2022 Skovoroda National Museum (Ukraine) was destroyed with a direct Russian missile strike in the time the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The shell flew under the roof of the building, and a fire broke out.
